Happenings in Texas

Hi y'all!

We're getting used to driving in Texas. I know that every state and city has a different set of drivers and what they think is proper driving etiquette, but this will take some getting used to. Being Texas, everything is LARGE, and this includes the cars. Down here we drive large trucks and SUVs, and the bigger the better! There's nothing more itimidating than to be sitting at a stoplight and glance in your rearview mirror, and all you can see is the grill of the car behind you. Eeps! We've also seen a ridiculously large number of Hummers, which is just Big personified. But so you really know where we are--a few days ago we passed the local Hummer dealer. Proudly displayed out front--a baby pink Hummer. (I've asked for it for my birthday!)

Other things to make you know we're in Texas? How about Doc's Gun Shop, down the road? Or--believe it or not--a chain or stores proudly calling themselves "Condoms to Go!"? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On an un-Texas related note, a few days ago I ordered some replacement filters for my air purifier. They were supposed to arrive in 3-5 business days via UPS. (Today was day 5.) Today, the postal service brought me a message from UPS saying that my box was undeliverable, as the address listed the wrong city. My only question is--if they could send me a note saying they couldn't bring me the box, why couldn't they just bring me the box?!

The Married Bloggers

Hi all!
A lot has happened since our last posting. Once again, we've been neglecting our faithful readers (Louisa!) but now we're back and ready to continue telling the tale of our life.
We had a small but absolutely lovely wedding on January 6th. We had the chance to see some friends who we haven't seen in a year or more and everything came off as planned. People keep asking for pictures, but as the bride, I wasn't too busy taking pictures!! So, if you're reading this and were there, please forward any pictures to us--I'm not sure when we'll be getting the official photographs.
On January 9th we moved to Dallas. We have a GREAT apartment that is at least twice as big as what we had in Kirribilli (and no holes in the floor!!!) We've spent this past week running to Ikea and putting together all our new furniture. Unfortunately, we did make it to Texas just in time for this "artic blast" that everyone's so afraid of. Wednesday was a snow day here in Carrollton and everyone stayed shivering indoors. Mike and I, however, were out on the road at 9 am to find no traffic and very clear roads. The news keeps having "special extended newshours" to show keep you up to date on the bad weather that wasn't happening. To be fair, I think it was bad other places in Texas, but Carrollton--not a chance!

I have officially become a Texan. When we got here, RA's uncle Bob lent us his truck for hauling purposes. I've never driven a truck before and let alone hauled anything. We were able to fit 2 nightstands, a computer desk(with hutch), a reed desk, a coffee table, two big book shelves and a diningroom chair in the back-all from Ikea! It may not have had a gunrack, I might not have had a cowboy hat, and I wasn't listening to country music, but I drove a truck, hauled things and felt manly about it so I'm calling myself a Texan now. Giddyup, Yee Haw, and Boy Howdy!
